Teacher Empowerment and Professional Development

Beads for Education strengthens educators through workshops and training programs to shift toward student-centered, interactive teaching methods while aligning with the Kenyan curriculum. These sessions cover creative and critical thinking, reading/writing enhancement, and subject-specific skills e.g STEAM.

BEADS also supports an intern program that brings in motivated educators and mentors. This helps build capacity at BEADS Tembea Academy (both at JSS and SSS). Teachers gain hands-on experience in innovative pedagogies, mentoring, leadership training, and integrating cultural pride with modern education.

By empowering teachers, BEADS creates a multiplier effect: better-prepared educators leads to more engaged students, stronger communities, and a new generation of women who become role models, professionals, and leaders.

BEADS strives to improve the quality of teaching in our sponsored schools with our teacher training and intern program. Most teaching in Kenya is based on memorization and repetition but our goal is to create critical thinkers and ultimately the next generation of Kenyan leaders.

Our interactive teaching, reading and writing programs are unique in Kenya.

Programs include an extensive book club program where all of our students and teachers read and discuss the same books. Every student will read and discuss 64 classic books before they graduate from 8th grade.

Most Kenyan schools don't have the resources to teach hands-on lessons. BEADS does its best to help teachers make lessons more compelling, memorable and fun.

Environment education includes a course in the local environment and conservation. One of our newest programs is our town clean up and recycling program -- students make toys for the younger students and displays for the school with recyclables they collect!

Perhaps the best form of teacher training is the BEADS Interns program. Several of our sponsored girls have expressed an interest in becoming full-time teachers after graduation.
